There are no Olympics this year but many of us Olympians are still training and competing in World Cups, and World Championships between now and the next Olympics in 2014. World Championships occur every year in biathlon and this is the most important competition for us after the Olympics.

Where are the next Winter Olympics? Sochi, Russia. This will be the first time that the Russian Federation will host the Winter Olympics; the Soviet Union hosted the 1980 Summer Games in Moscow.

Count down the days to Sochi on the website… http://sochi2014.com/en/ Today, there are 1086 days left!

Today I arrived in a small town called Dobbiaco in the South Tyrolean (north east) part of Italy for a training camp. We flew from Montreal to Munich, Germany and drove 3 hours to Italy. Last week I was at a World Cup in Fort Kent, Maine. Fort Kent, is a very small town in northern Maine, right on the border of Canada – Claire, New Brunswick. Our team was actually staying in Canada for the week, and everyday we had to cross a bridge through the American customs and into the USA. That doesn’t happen every day! A big celebrity was invited to Fort Kent to watch his first biathlon competition – Scottie Pippen. Pippen is a retired NBA player who played with the Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan. When the competition was over, Pippen shook the hands of the athletes that made the podium. He towered over the athletes during the flower ceremony!

(There is a video link of an interview with the medalists and Pippen on the Biathlon World site) - http://www5.biathlonworld.com/en/press_releases.html/do/detail?presse=1209

On February 26th, we fly to the Biathlon World Championships in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia. It is always an adventure flying to Russia. So more to come from Italy and my Russia adventure at the World Championships!
