To Make this Thanksgiving Turkey
Start with a 9" x 9" square of brown construction paper. |
Fold into a triangle. |
Open again, then make a slit as above. |
Fold into centre as above. |
Fold up to where slit starts. This creates the legs. |
Fold legs over each other. They can be staple by the teacher or glued by older students. Also staple the front together to form a pocket. |
Prepare nine 1 1/2 inch strips of construction paper for the feathers and a small piece of red construction paper for the head. |
Trim feathers.
For the head have the children draw the head with a pencil, cut it out, then add detail with small bits of construction paper and felt pen. Googly eyes could be used.
Then have the children glue the feathers on the back of the body
and the head to the inside of the front.
Words can be added to the feathers, first with pencil, then traced over with black sharpie.
The words can be added before or after the feathers are added to the body of the turkey.
If the words are added before it is important to add a start line on the feathers to leave room for glue. Also, the feathers can be trimmed to be shorter, taller and shorter again. |
